The cost of education may be the smallest monetary value belonging to the system inputs needed to reach a certain level of outputs. In order to understand the concept of cost of education, the notion of suitability of education must be understood in advance. There are two fundamental questions related to the educational adequacy concept: what is the amount of money that allows a school to provide its students with an adequate education and how the resources available in schools can be distributed so that all students receive an adequate education regardless of the circumstances in which the education process takes place. Through this paper, I want to identify answers to the two questions....
Since becoming an Olympic medal sport, the sport of Taekwondo has been going through considerable transformation resulting in an almost continual series of changes to the sport’s rules and subsequently interpretations of those rules. This work’s focus is to examine the problems facing the sport’s stakeholders in the education of the coaches and referees specifically in relation to the Oceania Region, and to provide some guidelines to a more effective model for the delivery of the sport’s education. Through a qualitative case study using phenomenological interviews, current educational offerings at both the global and regional levels were examined. Factors impacting on providing a consistent education platform were identified. Drawing on the results and on the literature, recommendations are made for further work to provide directions to future work to address the educational issues and problems in the Oceania region....
Medical tourism has shown a sustained increase in recent years in Colombia. As part of the DNA in the dynamics of the hotel sector, the quality of service is a fundamental aspect that determines how the medical tourist perceives his stay. Therefore, quality of service is the variable that directs this research, measured through five factors: Tangible Elements, Reliability, Responsiveness, Security and Empathy. In this sense, an objective was established to determine the strengthening of the quality of service oriented to the medical tourist as a strategy for the sustainability of the hotel sector in Barranquilla. Based on a survey of 215 subjects, the results showed that the quality of service received by the medical tourist is poor. Concluding that this behavior corresponds to the business model that owns the hotel sector in Barranquilla (oriented to the attention of business tourists) where no improvements have been made to give a differentiating value proposal aimed at providing attention towards the medical tourist, as a strategy for its sustainability in the market....
Electronic learning is fast becoming a crucial aspect of learning in higher institutions of learning. Just as in any other technology, there are important factors that affect users’ behavioural intention to adopt e-learning. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) identified performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions as some of the factors that may influence the behavioural intention and actual use of a technology. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the direct and indirect effects of the four determinants of technology adoption on students’ behavioural intention and actual use of e-learning in HEIs in the UAE. Using a quantitative approach and a survey research design, data was obtained from a sample of 406 students selected from the Higher Colleges of Technology in the UAE. Data was analysed using the partial least squares structural equation modelling. Findings from the study revealed that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions positively influence students’ behavioural intention to use e-learning. Furthermore, students’ behavioural intention to use e-learning mediates the relationship between the four dimensions of technology acceptance and students’ actual use of e-learning. Interestingly, the facilitating conditions negatively influenced students’ actual use of e-learning. This implies that the provision of the operational and technical resources including the required knowledge and skills needed to use a system successfully, does not directly translate into the actual use of the system especially if these resources are not specifically tailored to the age and previous experience of the students. Consequently, the study has contributed to supporting the propositions of the UTAUT model in the context of higher education and in the UAE....
Local communities are taking an increasingly major role in communicating a destination in terms of contact with tourists. Based on the assumption that tourist entities and agents are part of this community, it can be assumed that it is necessary for the territorial marketing regulators to promote their involvement. This communication is progressively generated through information and communication technologies (ICT), namely social networks. To analyze the communication contribution of the tourist entities of the Trás-os-Montes lands (a region in the northeast part of Portugal), an analysis was carried out on the online presence and its way of communicating the region. The findings offer relevant insights for the destination managers and policy makers....
